Happy Holidays!

Hope you all have been having a nice holiday and continue to do so through the new year. I personally can't wait till egg nogg is on the grocery shelf all year long. Here's an idea I have of this character who has tentacles for arms...and flies a capsule shaped space ship...and wears a cool hat...obviously a work in progress. Happy 2008!

sketchbook pages

Here are a few pages from my sketchboook. I finally had some time to just sit one night and sketch for fun. For one reason or another skulls and astronauts are my default imagery when I start doodling. The last one is from a 'draw-a-thon' in Brooklyn...best NYC night ever!

Figure Drawing...

I haven't drawn from a live model in a very, very loooong time. Bare with me as I try and find my foundation. Anyways, the poses and times vary...oh and I did some doodles of faces at the very bottom. Apologies for the lack of posting...work is still crazy busy.

Goliath Part 1

Well, it's not really part 1 because I did some thumbnails for the pose. It's more like stages 2 and 3 (pencil and ink). I just wanted to post to see some progress in the next few posts. I've scanned it in and now comes the hardest step for me...color. Hopefully it works out...wish me luck. Any suggestions are welcomed =] David will make an appearance soon.

Out of Picture 2

Phew! This was probably the biggest project I've ever taken on. 14 Pages of graphic novel, comic book madness for the upcoming Out of Picture 2 book. I finished last night and it doesn't come out until next year so I wanted to post a preview of one of the pages.

I hand lettered the type which was heavily edited by a friend by the name of Lisa Durr. Thanks kid! You saved my illiterate life.

Anyways, hope you dig and this also means I will be posting more often! waahoo...go posting...go posting...it's your birfday...(sorry)

trikes

here's a piece that started as a doodle the other night. i love to draw wheels, vehicles, bikes, and anything with circles. i started with the one in the middle and worked my way back. maybe they're trikes that belong to a trike gang that goes around the neighborhood collecting lemonheads or something....

ps. it's the start of a bigger bicycle project that i want to do. maybe i'll do a piece a week or so and work up a good number of originals to maybe even show, who knows. i'm inspired by bicycle thieves...one of my favorite movies of all time.

Character Design Interview!

I'm really excited about being interviewed this past week by a fella named Randall over at the Character Design Blog. (pinch) ouch! It was a fun and interesting process because some of the questions asked were things I've never really put much thought into. I learned a lot about myself and yeah I still don't know how to write...sorry Mrs. Wolf (High School English Teacher). Check it out if you get a chance and thanks Randall. I had a blast!

Benefit Auction

Here's a drawing I'm donating to a benefit auction back home in SF. I learned about this cool oppurtunity through a friend and co-worker, Dice. The proceeds will go to an organization named
Emergency which helps build hospitals in war torn countries. Besides being a meaningful cause the auction looks like it'll be an amazing show held at the Maverix Studios. Wish I could attend!

Anyways the drawing started as a doodle which turned into a small piece dealing with death and it's.....curiosity. Sort of like a small stranger who comes up to you and says "hello".

It was 1984 and I didn't know the meaning of the word consequences...does any child? Anyways, my childhood best friend and some other kids from the block would position themselves at the intersections and give the thumbs up when it was clear. We went through several big wheels doing that...the plastic tires would scrape down to nothing along with the soles of our shoes. Good times. I would never in my right mind do it again.....but you can if you'd like right here!

out of picture on the brew!

There's an interesting article on Cartoon Brew about artists working in the animation industry and their creative outlets outside of the 9 to 5. Out of Picture is mentioned in it along with other sweet books. I'm really happy to be a part of the second one and I'm learning a gazillion things as I go along. Storytelling panel to panel is a huge challenge! Here's a sneak peak of a panel in progress...shh, don't tell anyone =]

I apologize for the delay but things are getting pretty busy around here... so please bear with me as I hope to continue to post once a week. Dragons was the challenge last week. Maybe this guy's name is chucho...and maybe he likes balloons...in his size 42 chuck taylors?....yeah! why not. peace.

ghostbuster...

This week's challenge over at work is ghostbusters. Slimer has always had a special place in my heart so this one's for the green guy who can't stop eating garbage. Some of these lines were drawn with a pen imported from Japan. It was a gift from a friend... so I rolled the dice and tried it out. Cheers.

4 arms, 3 eyes, insect wings, arms longer than torso, reptile tail, elephant legs, claws

A buddy of mine (georgy boy) and his buddies (the block forum) were having a little fun with the description above. He invited me to do a monster with 4 arms, 3 eyes, etc, etc, and I couldn't wait to play with the idea of such a creature...so here's what I came up with. Oh, and the elephant leg is it's torso.
